My sociological prowess and acumen truly failed me this presidential election season: a good sociological theorist should be able to make accurate predictions! I\’m not sure how many bets I\’ve lost to the Trump* charisma — nor how many times he\’s made a fool of me…be-this-as-it-may — I\’m going-out-on-a-limb one-more-time to see if can make at least one accurate prediction. After all, I believe it was Rembrandt who suggested that if one-in-twenty of his paintings was considered a masterpiece — then he could consider himself a master painter.
So often we get
caught up in the trees of emails
and pussy groping
that we fail to see the forest…
I\’ve been wracking my brain for months trying to figure out the meta-narrative to the Republican support for Trump* (now that I\’ve figured out what\’s going on — I don\’t need to refer to him as \’the Emperor\’ any longer).
I have been tangled in the trees (with many other pundits) focusing on the minutiae surrounding Trump — never understanding why a man with half-a-brain (Mike Pence) plays lip-service to the insanity that is Trump! Until I finally recalled where I\’d seen Pence\’s \”cat eating the canary smile\” before: Yep! I last saw it on Papa Bush\’s face when seated next to Dubya (on a Bush private jet I\’m betting) after it looked like the election had gone to Al Gore. Papa Bush knew they still had an-ace-in-the-hole with Jeb and Florida. I see glimmers of this grin on Mitch McConnell\’s face as well.
Trump was the perfect ram\’s head to the Republican battering ram that has knocked down the Democrat fortress!
No one else in the Republican field could have accomplished this so utterly and completely. No other person could have laid waste to the Clinton Machine. I didn\’t give enough credence to the foresight of the Republican brain trust — when they saw early on that Trump could smash through anything. They have used him in brilliant and effective fashion to accomplish their goals! And all they had to do was endure a few insults along the way — knowing that the endgame was theirs. I have tested this notion at a few dinner parties and have experienced concurrence…
Hence the selection of Pence with his Clutch Cargo looks and mannerisms, and, his government experience. Pence has been groomed to take over from Trump following Trump\’s impeachment/heart attack/stroke (you decide). The Republicans just need Pence sworn in as vice president and they are home free. So inauguration day is actually bigger for placing Pence than it is for swearing in the Donald for what must be a very brief tenure in Washington. I believe Paul Ryan becomes vice president following Pence\’s ascendancy. Pence/Ryan will be a very tough tandem for the Democrats to take on.
I do feel a little sorry for the Donald…while he\’s not really being thrown under the bus (because he would get a presidential pardon from Pence should he be impeached) and his many millions should see him through any subsequent turbulence, I\’m surprised that he didn\’t realize how he was being played — unless there was some unseen Faustian bargain at the cross-roads in the tangled forest (which would be another variable I was unable to account for)…
