In God We Trump

February 14, 2019

So, Sarah Sanders has given Don the Con Messianic status by declaring him anointed, er, appointed, by god.

I knew that Oachita Baptist University training of hers would come pack to bite-us-all-in-the-ass — and it has — as she has managed to intertwine Trump…with…god!?  (For some strange reason I thought she went to Quinnipiac University when I wrote of my love for her [just one of the many errors I have made at The Inn — two of which I will attempt to redress in the attempt following this one]).

I am rarely beaten to the punch on seizing an idea floating about in the collective unconscious — so I thought I would be the first to laud Randall Balmer\’s article entitled: God is on Team Trump?  (Balmer is a professor of religion at Dartmouth College and wrote a book about Jimmy Carter as well.)

Alas there were 4-5 Letters-to-the-Editor published in my beloved Times RE: Balmer\’s article before I ever sat down to compose this piece and each-of-these-authors demonstrated his understanding and appreciation of the satirical nature of Balmer\’s piece.

I wasn\’t surprised that not a single letter of remonstration was published — because for that to have transpired — followers of Don the Con would have to be readers (and understand literary devices) — which we know they are not — and therefore can\’t (fortunately for you, Dr. Balmer!).

And because Trumphiles tend to believe in the fairy tale that is the biblical story of Jesus — they are easily \”played\” by invoking biblical passages (See my Why Jesus Makes You Half-brained — published a number of years ago).

But you seem to be a believer yourself, Dr. Balmer.

And this is where you and I diverge on applications of The Bible (though I believe we could have some humorous conversation on the topic).  Your brilliant content analysis of biblical passages — used as foils to Trump\’s behavior — had me laughing out loud for the first time in a long time.

You quoted a bit more from the Old Testament than the New — which is fine — because most Christian don\’t understand that they embrace The Torah (making them Jewish Christians — not  \’pure\’ Christians).

I — on-the-other-hand — have begun to view the legend of Jesus as a finely crafted story to quell Jewish violence in both Rome and occupied Judea back in that first century…

But I have gone off topic, again — I have not really dealt with Don the Con\’s elevation to a-son-of-god (Bill Maher suggested that churches catch on fire when you pass by, Donny.)

Some months back, when I professed my love for Sarah S, I also suggested that she wouldn\’t last too much longer in her position — as it seemed she had learned how to laugh at herself, and the absurdity that she was part of.

I was wrong again — because she\’s still there (perhaps the Mueller investigation will somehow explain why she has hung on so long).

Brainwashed by a goddamned Baptist institution, I should have realized that Sarah had the potential of going Joan of Arc on US.  And she has!!!

Consider this our Valentine\’s Day divorce, Sarah — I can no longer love  a half-brained disciple of another Joseph Smith!

If Balmer\’s book on Jimmy C (JC?) is half-as-good-as-his-finely-crafted article  — I will have to read it…
