Publisher Arash was asking where this particular installment was – and I told him that I was putting it off because I had more important things to deal with than writing about the 2000-year-old dead dude – whose name has been used to slaughter more people than anybody else’s name (like Obama, for instance). What a grim thing. I’d come back — just to clear my name.
But, in between, I’ve learned that Publisher Arash is a very competent Setaar player. I’ve attempted to play with him twice now (instrumentally speaking): once I tried a synthesizer with that 4-stringed contraption – and then, the piano. I wasn’t satisfied with my attempts with either instrument – so I went out and got a Melodica to see if I couldn’t get in the pocket with him a bit more. More-on-this-later…
Well, I probably didn’t address Jesus and the half-brained contention very well in the first installment – preferring to render some Laurence Gardiner background (this is the guy that Dan Brown ‘borrowed’ heavily from) to the whole, sordid ,Jesus tale – so here goes:
We all know, or most of us should…that fairy tales were created to keep children in line. As any good Jew should know, the prophets tried to keep them in line – Moses and Jesus were just-a-couple in a long line of prophets who tried to explain to the Jews how God wanted them to behave.
Why were the chosen people always getting out-of-line? I mean, why would God choose such an unruly bunch to be his favorites (as opposed to the American Indian for instance [they were around at the same time])? Apparently the chosen people didn’t honor their parents; they apparently murdered one another; they stole each others’ wives and cattle; and, at least 6-other-things that people shouldn’t do to one another.
What the Hell is wrong with this God?! Why should s/he/it be committing such tremendous time; energy; and, his own Son — to get his chosen people in line? There comes a point in time where we have to realize what a fairy tale is – and clearly divide it from socio-political reality!
And this is why belief in Jesus as the ONLY son of the ONLY, ONE True God — has to be lumped into the realm of a fairy tale (someday Brother Paul [the world’s pull-up champion] will figure this out – but for now, like 2 billion other humanoids – he needs something other than himself to believe in). Believing in Jesus is to subscribe to the classic fairy tale – with the classic, happy ending (heaven in this case).
Electing to believe that Jesus is the one true son of the only true god means that any information or observation that possibly contradicts this belief – must be brushed aside. So, when we look at the pantheon of human knowledge and human experience – we can easily suggest that more-than-half-of-what-can-be-considered human experience falls outside of the Christian perspective – then your average Christian must shut out over half of the human experience to maintain the “proper” perspective.
That sounds pretty half-brained to me.
