…is a well-regulated militia.
It\’s the \”well regulated\” piece of the 2nd Amendment that everyone seems to forget about. If we are to follow the letter of The Constitution — then every gun owner should belong to a well-regulated militia — which doesn\’t seem to be the case with regards to the many mass shootings US faces.
At first I wanted to bitch more about the robber baron — SoCalGas — because so many Americans (78%) are a surprise $400 charge away from economic disaster — but the recent spate of mass shootings in California has pushed me to offer my solution to America\’s gun violence instead.
It\’s simple!
We merely need each congressional district to support a well-regulated militia. We already know that the number of guns in America far exceeds the American population — so every House Representative needs to appoint a militia leader who (with a team) identifies and registers each gun in that congressional district. Additionally — weekly meetings and shooting practice should be held to keep the militia sharp (in case they are needed to handle something the local police force can\’t). In this way we\’ll have double the protection, or as Colonel Tom Parker put it: Security!
We\’ve listened to the NRA complaining for years that politicians want to take away their right to bear arms — but with my proposition — that would never happen. Registering with your congressional district militia would only protect that right.
What would we do in the wake of a militia : police confrontation? I ask this because it could happen under certain circumstances, e.g., if a street gang was too much for the police (and National Guard) to handle! Then the militia should be called in (if Homeland Security hasn\’t beaten them to it). But whenever possible, the militia should defer to the local police — because the police get paid and militia members have day jobs.
In the same breath the foregoing words came to me — I realized that I suggested 2 more levels of security offered to the American public: the National Guard and Homeland Security (both of whom also get paid when rendering service)! These 4 levels of armed security should be able to squelch any gun-related crime which is a threat to the State. They don\’t need no stinking FBI, CIA or NSA. (Did the level of armed security we Americans enjoy just rise to 7?)
What If a militia man (or woman) commits a gun-related crime? I\’d say that the militia should hand out their own brand of justice. I\’m counting on the militia to keep its members monitored and under control — since they don\’t need to fire their arms unless their State district is being attacked by a foreign power (or an enemy who wants to use their home, rent free). In this case — militias will need to coordinate with one another regarding where the attack is coming from.
I\’d also like to think that militias will keep ersatz police forces in check — because if the police are threatening a community (or failing to protect them) — it seems logical that the militia (and suddenly, the National Guard) take their place to provide security to the community.
I can\’t imagine a militia wo/man feeling the need to threaten a policeperson — but should a policeperson wantonly kill a militia person — justice could be served in the congressional district — with the militia exacting military justice. The federal government will have to deal with an errant National Guardsman or NSA, FBI, Homeland Security or CIA agent.
And woe to the person who commits a gun-related crime and doesn\’t belong to a militia or any of the armed agencies.
Best of all, however, is that gun manufacturers won\’t lose business! What with 435 congressional districts we\’re talking about 435 militias that are armed and continuously trained.
It\’s high time to add militias to America\’s gun mix — and what a gun mix we have — with 7 agencies armed and ready to tackle bad guys. It\’s a wonder that we have any crime at all?!
