November 2, 2020
So let me get this straight…during a February 7, 2020 interview with Bob Woodward (of Watergate fame), Trump expressed some formidable knowledge about the coronavirus (how he kept this information in his head to discuss it with Bob is a mystery to me?).
Trump acknowledged that the coronavirus would be way, way worse than the flu — and acknowledged that it was a nasty virus that could kill many Americans.
But Trump and his handlers did nothing: suggesting they didn\’t want to start a panic that would affect the stock market — settling for a pandemic instead?!
So the bottom line is: American deaths vs. the Stock Market — that institution where the Fat Cats keep their money (to avoid paying taxes) — and the odd investor can cash out with some earnings — but nothing near what the Fat Cats make off of the dreams of others!). Which reminds me of lyrics I wrote in the late 80s for the Evermore song Grindstone:
A rich man once told me
I know it all
People live for their dreams
and then they fall
and I, I take it all, I take it all…
Sunday\’s edition of Doonesbury actually touched on the same topic I am addressing in this attempt: the plethora of blood on Trump\’s hands for not acting more quickly and decisively — worried instead by how the stock market would react…worried instead about money rather than American lives.
Some guesstimates suggest that quicker, more decisive action on the part of the Trump administration might have saved 80,000-to-100,000 American lives (at the time of this writing): At the end of the pandemic (providing there is one) we don\’t know how many American casualties will be directly attributable to Trump\’s inaction.
So Doonesbury suggested that from an US population of 328,000,000 (minus the 230 some thousand of COVID-19 related deaths) that Trump will have saved over 327,775,000 American lives (give or take). This all being tongue-in-cheek of course…And this folks, is the art of the spin (not at all dissimilar from the-art-of-the-con, er, the \’deal\’) that has our most unsure voters in a tizzy — thinking that Biden will turn us into a communist state (ala Cuba? Russia? China? North Korea? or the highly successful Vietnam?), and, that Biden will mandate vaccinations that will carry nano-technology that will turn US into robots (not saying that the latter is impossible). I guess young, impressionable voters don\’t see US headed into North Korean-styled communism — under Trump.
Anyway, this upcoming election (or selection) should completely polarize US and make the title The UNITED States of America a rather ironic one — as we seemingly crest into another Civil War.
Only a true dictator can shake off killing his own people as collateral damage — someone like a Stalin or a Pol Pot or a Mussolini (who Trump resembles the most).
Ah well, it is what it is!
P.S.
I thought I had something more intelligent or provocative to add…but I have forgotten it. I just pray that on November 4th 2020 I will awaken from a 4-year nightmare and begin writing about something, or someone else — other than the pumpkinhead.
And no, I don\’t want to see Kamala Harris ever become president of US — but I\’m betting she\’ll make a good vice president.
Go Joe!
