I was talking to Mark at the Rosenthal wine tasting room (which is right across the PCH from my Topanga State Beach surf spot and where Mark works) and we got onto the topic of medical insurance. When he told me how much he has to pay per month — I was flabbergasted! I was similarly flabbergasted some years back when I learned how much my step-son was paying for his family (which includes the granddaughters)!!! I don\’t even bring up the topic with my own sons–because I\’m ashamed of what we Boomers have done to them, and, afraid they\’ll hit me up for a loan!
The powers that be are hammering subsequent generations: fleecing for their own retirements — which is happening as-we-speak. \”The powers that be\” are of course the Baby Boomers and survivors of \”the greatest generation.\”
I have no clue how our current working generations are going to make ends meet?! I know that they are supposed to work longer before they can retire, and, for less money (and this is before we factor in Global Warming and the planet\’s population surpassing 8 billion). Purportedly Mother Earth can only hold 10 billion of us. How many Earthlings can we send to Mars or the Moon?
I used to begin my first lecture to my classes by apologizing on behalf of the Baby Boomers –who have facilitated the carnage facing them.
I laugh whenever a Baby Boomer or (greatest generation member) disparages Millennials or Generation Xers or whatever else we are calling the disenfranchised — suggesting these generations have no work ethic or constructive values.
How are they supposed to get through the pile of shit we have left them to find a light at the end of the tunnel?
Problems such as these should be tackled by sociology departments around the country. My old sociology department would prefer to worry about grade inflation (a topic for another day) rather than see Californians pay less for our sunshine! And I\’ve heard that we\’re getting yet another kick in our collective income asses, er, taxes — to the tune of a 1.1%!! The sunshine gets harder and harder to afford.
Don\’t be surprised Doctor\’s Inn Readers when I beg you for a Go Fund The Doctor\’s Inn subscription in the New Year — as I try to afford continued living in the Golden State.
Guvner — it\’s not feeling as golden as it once did!
And now I finally realize why the term \”socialism\” is such a frightening concept to the entitled classes: because \”It\” would mean that \”we\” Boomers would have to give up some of our hard-earned wealth (earned when there was a much rosier economy) to help those generations succeeding us.
We already know that social security will fail somewhere around 2033-35 and pension plans probably not long thereafter. The Road Warrior and Hunger Games are starting to become real possibilities! I see fiefdoms popping up all over the place!
Apologies and a Merry Fucking Christmas!
