I Can\’t Move to France

September 17, 2016

My old college roommates have stated that they will be heading North should the unthinkable occur…

It is very difficult to write about much of anything during this presidential election year other than the madness that has overtaken US.  A- number-of-years-ago I thought Hillary would be a slam dunk — and a knuckle dragger like The Donald would never have a chance…

But it appears that we are through the glass darkly with The Donald…up is down; down is up; black is white and white is black; the bad are good and the good are bad…right is wrong while wrong is right and there seems to be no way out from behind this looking glass…

I\’ve also heard a number of folks wanting to follow Alec Baldwin\’s lead (when Baldwin said he was moving to France if Dubya won the presidency) suggesting that they, too, will be moving to France if Trump gains the presidency.

What\’s so good about France?  Even before the Muslim migration (which finally engendered a tolerance of languages other than French!) I doubted very much that I could get along with the French.  I definitely can\’t speak French, and, I am half German.  Additionally, the American side of me used to find the French both pompous and arrogant…but that could simply have been a reaction to the French perception that ALL Americans are idiots.  And US are not ALL idiots…in fact, I\’ve found myself feeling much more intelligent than Frenchmen we\’ve recently hobnobbed with.

But I can\’t entertain such trivial nonsense at-the-moment, particularly with the blood that has been spilled in France this Summer and going back to the Charlie Hebdo incident.  I presently \”feel\” for the French — extending both sympathy and empathy to them, even though I am aware of the brutality the French foreign legion dished out in Muslim lands.  I guess people never do forget…even though the actual oppressors are long since dead…

So my remaining distractions from grim reality are my Trojans and my Dodgers…

Speaking of oppressors — how much longer can the Alabama steroid program go on?!  Under Pete Carroll WE had the best steroid program in the country — but we sure as Hell got spanked by Nick Satan this year!  At least Trojan Nation finally has confirmation that Troy was purposely spanked harder than anyone by the NCAA (except perhaps SMU).  Plenty of other programs should have been spanked harder than we were — particularly Johnny Manziel and his autographs.  If he and Texas A & M had been properly spanked at the time (instead of a ridiculous one quarter suspension) I\’m betting the Cleveland Browns would have been spared undo aggravation, and at least one woman, domestic battery.

And how about our crazy Dodgers?  Is the \”Win-for-Vin\” thang for real?!

I spoke with friend Carlos, who\’s a much savvier baseball man than I am.  He thinks the Boys in Blue could go all-the-way!  We have both decided that ripping-the-heart-out-of-the-team (with the A.J. Ellis trade) could only have been an attempt at shaking up the club house.  But this writer felt the painful residue of the Martinez, Piazza, Lo Duca, Martin and Gordon trades. Still, if they can win for Vin…

I can\’t imagine a life without Vin…I\’m already having withdrawals.  Rick Monday, Charlie Steiner,  Orel, Nomar and other guys I\’m not really familiar with seem fine-and-dandy (though I don\’t know which combinations will work best on TV and radio).  Sadly none-of-them will replicate the voice of God.

If only Vin could step in and call the Hillary game for her — she might have a better chance…
