I thought I had the U.S. deficit all figured out: as I heretofore preached doom and gloom about our economy. Then my Buddy, Mack Attack, sent me an article that left me reeling. The particular economist featured in this article boldly stated that because the U.S. dollar was the world’s reserve currency — nothing bad could happen to the U.S. dollar – though Americans might feel a real good inflationary squeeze in-years-to-come.
So I decided to swear off attempting to write about stuff that I truly don’t understand (like national and international currencies and markets): the Big Boys who prattle with this stuff are so-far-out-of-my-league that I feel like a high school hoopster playing against the NBA Champs (not to mention the Rothschild and Rockefeller influences)! I have subsequently decided to devote my energies to stuff that I have observed, and, that I have some experience with.
And now, I sheepishly return to a topic that I have addressed in an earlier Dr.’s Inn proffering (circa 2008) entitled: “Short Circuit”; where I suggested that Californians were starting to drive shittier than normal due to the downturn in the economy. But even though the economy seemed to get shittier – the shitty driving didn’t seem to get any worse…until this Year! I again experience people cutting me (and others) off; speeding by me at 50mph in 30mph no passing zones; and, having words with me if I try to tell them that they shouldn’t be driving like they do in my hood…
I wanted to blame the driving decline on the economy again — because no matter what the pundits have to say Vegas — remains my barometer; and, when Vegas is advertising every-which-way (along with our California Indian casinos), I get that feeling that the State and national economies are not doing what they are purported to be doing. But as I have suggested – I am not one to comment on how the economy affects us – so I believe I must attribute the current driving craziness I am witnessing to the upcoming (and probable) legalization of marijuana in California.
As we know, both Colorado and Washington have legalized the evil weed; and, at least in Colorado, plenty of “buried” money has risen to the surface which has been quite a boon to that State’s economy. I’m sure this will be the case in all States that legalize Mary Jane.
But I don’t think that I can ever buy into the rhetoric that MJ is not as bad as alcohol with regards to driving impairment and that MJ won’t affect drivers like alcohol does (read elsewhere when I stopped for nearly 20 minutes [or longer] at a traffic light) — not able to remember whether green or red was the ‘proceed’ signal!
Therefore, I am blaming MJ smokers for the current craziness I have been witnessing on California roads: Fog Hatters are anticipating its legalization and already celebrating! You can tell that their timing is off as they make their turns in front of oncoming traffic! I invariably cringe as I anticipate the contact…
Just the other day, some Smart Ass (I couldn’t really tell if he was drunk or high or hadn’t been laid by his girlfriend sitting next to him), who didn’t enjoy me going the speed limit on MY STREET, illegally passed me going 50mph (in that 30mph no passing zone I have told you about). When I pulled up next to him – he basically told me that I was out-of-line and that everything he did was perfectly legal and legitimate. He even had the cajones to sarcastically ask me if my Michigan State t-shirt qualified me as some kind of cop: something I probably would have said in my fog hat years…
Speaking of years passed…T.S. Eliot, in his poem “The Second Coming” suggested that:
“The best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity…”
Damn! It’s happening again!!
