I have taken on a few social issues in-the-past, most as objects of research interest – but this one is personal – as Percy Anderson, federal judge, has put my favorite chess opponent behind bars for 22 months!
Now this “opponent” (actually my buddy) is in an allegedly nice, white-collar institution in Texas; and, will probably do but half-his-time or less there (though he would have done fine and been less of a tax burden had he served ‘house arrest’; and, we could have enjoyed a few more chess games [which he invariably wins]). But Judge Anderson enjoys meting out his own capricious sense-of-justice and prefers to put a non-threatening individual on the tax payer’s tab. But you don’t have to believe me – you can go to the following sites to hear what other authors (much more schooled in ‘the law’ than I) have to say about Judge Percy Anderson:
1) Wikipedia actually devotes a section to “Percy Anderson – Judge,” and some of his miscarriages are noted;
2) The Daily Journal (July 28, 2011 – article by Gabe Friedman) and my beloved L.A. Times (August 21, 2011 – article by Carol J. Williams) also discuss human suffering induced by Percy Anderson’s judicial improprieties; and,
3) The Huffington Post has a look at Percy in “Judge Turned a Blind Eye” from 2011.
Through my buddy’s travails, I have learned that these federal judges are basically untouchables – and once appointed – they literally have to retire, or die-on-the-job, to be completely removed from whateveritis they purport to do.
My critically astute readers know that my buddy must have done something wrong to appear before a federal judge – and I guess he did; if you consider following orders by signing checks a criminal offense – then he is guilty of something…but it’s not like he was a Nazi line staff performing executions as he was ordered; rather, his performance was perfectly in line with these large, hedge fund operations.
Yep. You guessed it! He worked for the Bernie Madoff of Los Angeles, and, quite a few investors lost millions through this guy – but not because my buddy and his boss attempted to steal the money, rather, because the stock market crash they couldn’t get their “hands on the money.” My buddy’s boss has even (allegedly) paid restitution to most everyone owed money in the hedge-fund fiasco– but too late to satisfy Judge Percy.
Another thing I learned about the American judicial system is: you can appeal a decision by a crazy ass-hole like Judge Anderson – but still end up serving your time before your appeal is heard?! How ass backwards is that?
I remember having my own delightful experience with a stuffed-up prick by the name of Commissioner Siegel. My “traffic” ticket “paled in comparison” to what has transpired in my buddy’s case – but I recall that Siegel (totally in the wrong about my case) chose to lambast me in open court – because I caught him in his miscarriage of justice. But I could do nothing to correct my situation, either – though I’ve never had to do time.
The point of the matter is: there are far too many dickheads who are above the law: from judges; all-the-way down to cops and prison line staff. When-you-think-of-it, we no longer have the-rule-of-law operative in the U.S. (and we haven’t had it for a very long time, I dare say): You can follow the dictates of the law and still get screwed over – while politicians, judges and cops pad their retirement on our tax dollars…I often wonder how many tax dollars are lost NOT by what we pay to maintain prisons, but by what the prisoners don’t pay in taxes…
