My apologies to my readers if this feels like an uneven read — for some reason I couldn\’t bring this one home…it is a rather dry set up for Part II — which is about Trump and his \”dirty\” women. I just couldn\’t seem to make the Two parts fit into a single piece…
It makes perfect sense that the first business from which a person could gain an economic advantage was to make One\’s own body available for sex — where there is little upfront investment for an apparently acceptable return; and, no overhead (pun intended). This particular framing goes a long way to explaining Eve\’s apple and the Judeo/Christian anxiety about prostitution.
Rudy Guliani seems to have conflated Stormy Daniel\’s \”acting career\” with this, oldest \”profession\”; and, suggests Stormy subsequently deserves no respect (odd how his boss seems to \”go after\” this type of working woman).
Dear Rudy,
Stormy Daniels, America\’s new darling, is NOT a prostitute — and we will look at the following categories of work: a profession; a career; an occupation; work; a job and/or a vocation — to illustrate why she is not.
My late, great colleague, Dr. Greg Jackson, would have made make the requisite distinctions effortlessly (probably because he was a career counselor!); but I will attempt to muddle through them with regards to Stormy\’s \”acting\” career and the oldest profession.
Let\’s examine some of the distinctions between pornography and prostitution in light of the aforementioned \”work\” categorizations:
A profession generally requires lengthy training and formal qualifications — like getting a degree — and specific certifications. Certainly sex therapists acquire some type of certification — but the only apparent qualifications for work in the porn industry are: Big Boobs; a Big Cock; the stamina to seemingly fuck forever; and, the ability to simulate orgasm (frequently and loudly). A prostitute, on-the-other-hand, may not have the biggest boobs or largest cock, and, may not even have the pleasure of orgasm during the purchased time. So a porn actress seems to have a leg-up (pun again intended) — with regards to this category of work.
A career is a profession, occupation, or job that we do for 20-years-or-more. It is difficult to sustain a career in the sex profession as it can be exhausting and dangerous work: I don\’t think many in the porn line-of-work do it into their middle age. Neither can I imagine a prostitute being able to provide service for 20-years-or-more. So neither field achieves the status of a career — often referred to as a \”former\” activity — but I\’m betting that porn actors continue to get residuals in their retirement whereas I doubt prostitutes do. Points for porn!
Work usually refers to the effort put into accomplishing something and is generally not fun. Porn might be fun in the early innings — but it probably becomes work at some point. The porn actress has an edge on the prostitute however, because she can fake her orgasm (and if the guy can\’t come — they are able to break until he can [or do they have back-up dicks?]). The poor prostitute has to make sure the trick cums or s/he doesn\’t get paid. Points to the porn actress for engaging in an activity that probably requires less work.
An occupation, like a profession, generally means you have a title for what it is that you earn your bread and butter by. It is a formalized position with attendant roles, like being a CPA, or a lawyer. A porn actress and prostitute are both expected to be able to provide a specific set of sex services — so I guess Rudy\’s conflation works here.
A job is something you do to pay-the-bills — and you may need a few rudimentary skills to accomplish this: but a job is something you can usually leave when something better comes along (See \’Work\’). Women with great bodies and men with big dicks may be able to earn money in both the porn and prostitution fields — but they are always looking for something better (for the porn actor it is to achieve \’star\’ status and the prostitute — to earn top dollar for her/his time). Here I can\’t be too sure as to which field provides the top earning capacity — but I feel it has to be the porn business (oops, business is yet another work-related term that might favor the pimp [do they even have these anymore?]).
And a vocation is often referred to as a \”calling\” — where any of the above designations feels \”right\” to the performer: like they are literally doing God\’s work (this is the age-old priest excuse [and Rudy, you look like you could have been a priest]).
I don\’t think sex industry types would provide their services for free — unless you are trying to get on The Apprentice — and then probably only once (even though the POTUS reportedly tried to score a-couple-more-times).
Therefore, Stormy Daniels has a career/occupation that seemingly requires a few more credentials than the work of a prostitute; more job security; and less work than a mere prostitute.
So, shame on you Rudy, Stormy does deserve your respect — because what she performs is above and beyond the requirements for the oldest profession; and, it\’s regulated and legal. She would have done well on The Apprentice!
