During the week I had so many great ideas to write about – I can’t tell you…and I really can’t – because I don’t remember a one-of-them (this, the fallout of having the diseases of C.R.A.F.T. [Can’t Remember A Fucking Thing] and C.R.S. [Can’t Remember Shit]).
I wanted to write a letter to my beloved Times (even though I know they wouldn’t print it) RE: the Dodgers – who are really sucking these days – and I think it’s because Jeff Kent is a real toxic presence in the clubhouse. Why is it that good baseball players coming into the Dodger organization immediately become mediocre (ManRam excepted), and, so many ex-Dodgers become all-stars? I don’t get it.
Neither do I understand why it is so goddamned difficult to balance the California State budget. I have heard the rhetoric time-and-time-again that we have like the 6th or 7th largest economy in-the-world – and we’ve got Hollyweird too…I just don’t get it.
If I can still believe that people get up every day to give the world their best – then why do we always seem mired in problems? Were the Greeks correct that a city-state can only have 500 citizens to maintain a democracy?? Do successful cultures really require slavery to get things done correctly??? I guess we only know as much as we know at any-given-moment in-our-lives, and we each function from that place. Sadly, most people don’t have much time to deconstruct their lives (they’re too busy putting a roof over their heads or feeding children) as academicians such as myself do. We spend a heckova a lot of time sitting on our asses and thinking great thoughts while we accumulate information.
And I AM learning a great deal as I get older: I didn’t realize that the Brits were backing the South in our Civil War; I didn’t know that there was a possibility that the first moon landing by the U.S. was potentially staged; and, I certainly didn’t know that David Duchovny is self-professed sex addict (is Tea complaining?).
Speaking of addicts – I was very happy for Robert Downey Jr. and his road back to the big screen: he was plenty-of-fun in “Iron Man”; and, I have heard that he is stellar in “Tropic Thunder.” I have always liked the guy.
And I like Obama too. That was a helluva speech he gave in accepting his party’s nomination. I rank it right-up-there with Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream; JFK’s inaugural address; and, The Gettysburg Address – but I couldn’t shake the feeling that Obama was speaking at his own funeral. Now that he has spoken on this larger-than-life-stage, he can be “whacked” and the Clintons can use all-of-this larger-than-life footage to maintain power for 8-more-years. And now that the message is “out there” – we no longer need the Man – anybody can wield the message: and I think the Clintons did a great job of transmuting into both Obama and Biden. But if I’m wrong, I will be very happy to be wrong. And if Obama makes it to the White House – somebody gotta get Michelle Obama a new fashion designer!
And what-the-hell is going on with the Republican and moose-huntin’ Sarah Palin?! Aside from looking like “the girl next door” who will give you a blow job to practice getting it right – what are we supposed to get from a cheerleader – politically speaking (I do understand the vicarious blow job)?
I guess pipples will just keep on being pipples…
