George Herbert Walker Bush
December 15, 2018
First, my obligatory apology for being away from The Inn for yet another extended period of time. Not only is it the end of the Semester — but we\’ve been experiencing some urban terrorism on campus that has added an additional level of work to properly servicing students whose dreams for the future are wrapped in a college degree cocoon. My sociology students are looking at how Symbolic Violence is being promulgated by our current president — and how this has contributed to a rise in violence and hate crimes.
Yet the moment I heard Papa Bush being made out to be some kind of hero or saint (following his death) — I wanted to respond immediately and counter-act the syrupy schmaltz (even though it would have interrupted my carefully structured routine)!
Instead I waited to see if this delirium opined on Saint George would pass…It took-a-couple-of-weeks after the funeral proceedings — but I finally caught some letters to my beloved Times\’ editors suggesting that George H.W. Bush was not the man that everyone seemed to be making him out to be.
I know for a FACT that Saint George had allotta blood on his hands!
Panama
Otherwise known as Operation Just Cause — Saint George ordered US Marines into Panama City to apprehend Manuel Noriega (who aided and abetted Bush\’s CIA-led drug trafficking through Panama for years). When Saint George became president of US — he needed that connection to be severed. Manuel wanted business to keep going as usual. Manuel paid the price — as did 5000 Panamanian civilians — though official US government statistics only reported a civilian death toll of 175 person. I know an eyewitness who saw at least 14, fresh, mass graves with up to 200 bodies in each — shot in the back with American hardware.
Iraq
Bush Oil got into Iraq and the Middle East around the turn of the 20th Century (that\’s 1899/1900 for those who struggle with timelines). If my Readers didn\’t know (and I feel like I\’ve written about this before) — Bush Oil has/had large concerns in Kuwait. So when Saint George pissed off Saddam — and abrogated whatever deal they had (don\’t forget that Saint George got Saddam his dictatorship back in a CIA-backed coup) — Saddam decided to take over Bush Oil in Kuwait. The rest is history.
Reagan
Most of my Readers should know when the assassination attempt on President Reagan took place. What I had long heard was that John Hinckley Sr. (father of the John Hinckley Jr. — the Reagan would-be assassin) had worked under Saint George in the CIA. Further research suggests that the Senior was also an oil man (and may not necessarily have been a sanctioned agent). I am not sure of what Hinckley Sr.\’s motivation was (oil and/or obedience) — but he sacrificed his son so that Saint George could get the actor out of the White House. Don\’t tell me that a drugged up, fucked up John Hinckley Jr. could have got close enough to Reagan & Co. to wreak the damage he did! Someone else was shooting…
Iran/Contra
This was another one of the many things that Saint George was up to: getting guns to the Contras via a country that was supposed to be \”hands off.\” Ollie North took the fall for this one! The Contras were a brutally violent group responsible for many civilian deaths in Central America. The Contras (or their descendants) are still causing people to leave their homelands in caravans…
Operation Desert Storm/Gulf War/Operation Desert Shield
This one killed at least 1 million Iraqi civilians (I\’m pretty sure that this is what the Red Cross reported) — because of Saddam and Saint George\’s tiff. Recall, that as Saddam retreated — he set fire to hundreds of oil wells
Kennebunkport
I KNOW I\’ve written about this elsewhere — but this is when Saddam sent over a hit squad to try and assassinate Saint George at Kennebunkport in the Spring of 1992 (not long after Bill Clinton took office). Obviously the 21 hit men failed (after encountering the Secret Service) — but Son Dubya did once publicly state, as US left Afghanistan for Iraq, that: \”They tried to get my Pappy — so they got it coming.\” Iraq still incurs civilian casualities.
Saint George? Hardly…
