So This is What Anarchy Looks Like

June 3, 2020

If I were to run, I\’d run as a Republican.  They\’re  the dumbest group of voters in the country.  They believe anything on Fox News.  I could lie and they\’d still eat it up.  I bet my numbers would be terrific. (Donald Trump/People Magazine, 1998)

Couple this 22-year-old utterance with shooting someone on Fifth Avenue and not losing a vote — and you have the recipe for an absence of government: the cornerstone of anarchy along with anything goes.  I mean, George Floyd\’s very public lynching by a branch of law and order — and the slow response to charging Derek Chauvin (not to mention the ridiculous first coroner\’s autopsy report) was a reminder that we are still in a state of anarchy (a bit of a pun, don\’t you think?).

But gosh — this anarchy thang doesn\’t look so bad from where this old White Man sits (elsewhere I have written that I thought our anarchy would take the form of Star Trek\’s \”Red Hour\” or The Purge) because I\’m still getting paid (and protesters and looters would have to work their way uphill to disrupt my full [but soft-bellied old age]).  And most comforting of all is that the police and national guard are learning how to deploy in the metropolis — a harbinger to martial law (which I believe the Donald has called for [and even practiced the other night on his way to St. John\’s Church for a photo op]).

I mean what else will the youth and disenfranchised of US have to do this Summer of 2020 other than protest and set fire to the symbols of capitalism?  Unemployment is pushing 20%; people have no incomes or health care in many cases; school is pretty much out for Summer and most importantly — what type of life do the youth of America and the disenfranchised have to look forward to?  If we are realistic about it — there is no hope for them!  Where will all the jobs come from?  Who will pay off the student loan debt??  At least this group doesn\’t seem to worry about coronavirus…

Plenty of people have begun to call Donald — the Mad King — and like Ludwig II (the Mad King  of Bavaria) — Trump may still leave us with a legacy: much like Ludwig\’s fantastic castle of Neuschwanstein — which has become a phenomenal tourist attraction and is featured as Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter film series.  So after bankrupting Bavaria (more than once I believe) — Ludwig did leave Germany with a money maker!

I\’m not quite sure how our Mad King is going to make diamonds out of coal — but since he is the best at everything — I\’m sure he\’ll leave us with something beyond the Royal Family of Trump — that we can all cash in on down the road.

I am resigned to 4 more years of him — since he seems impervious to problems and troubles that would destroy a normal man.  I am thankful to have my white privilege and even more glad that I am too old to be drafted to maintain it: I\’ll just continue to live happily on the many backs of my entitlement — until such time as my middle class life style dries up (like a raisin in the Sun?) — then I might be motivated to protest the royals!

I mean, if the fearsome Mr. John Bolton can be made to shut up — and charges still haven\’t been levied on the other three policemen involved with Mr. Floyd\’s murder (as of this writing) — US remains a great place to live — for older White Folk.  Our children and grandchildren won\’t be so lucky, however — because we have left them a messy pile of shit!

I can only hope that they will be able to breathe the air…

P.S.

I experimented with facetiousness in this attempt — I\’m hoping my readers can pick up on it.

P.P.S.

I normally don\’t mix my prose with my music — but for any Reader who is interested — I have a song \”out there\” called \”Find Your Place in the Sun\” which I rather like (and has nothing to do with coronavirus).
