The Baby Chicks Have Hatched

December 22, 2014

El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Venezuela, Chile, Columbia, Grenada, Panama and Mexico are the countries that US have meddled in that are within walking, sailing or driving distance to US.  What the Tea Party and Far Right (Always Right?) Republicans are oblivious to is: the US has been either partially, or wholly responsible, for the murder of fathers, sons, brothers and uncles and certainly  the formation of gangs and drug cartels in these countries…all thanks to our insatiable appetite for oil and drugs.

An Important Aside

I must pause for a moment to recant my recantation performed some months past.  I must admit that I did it out of fear — when I realized how many fore-thinking Americans have been assassinated by those who deemed them internal risks to the Republic: I didn\’t want to become another statistic — as I\’ve still got to get 2 sons through college and keep their medical going until they turn 26 (and they both seem to need this coverage!).  But in these past few months, while I\’ve had my-head-up-the-ass of contemporary sociological theory, (reading the works of the more radical sociologists [while still maintaining my Jon Stewart and Bill Maher diet]) — I\’ve realized that there are plenty of people still out there who are calling it like it is.  Additionally, I not only revisited the life and work of Karl Marx last semester — but I\’m doing a concentrated two-week unit on him this semester.  I\’d quite forgotten how many countries Karl had been kicked out of for voicing his socio-political views.  And while I am no Karl Marx, I have realized that I have to keep saying what I feel I should say…in my own unique way.

So I\’m getting back into the saddle — I can\’t be chicken shit anymore — particularly when so many are hatching!

These unstable environments — these crucibles — where these refugee children are hatching are reflective of at least two generations of Latino children attempting  to survive in US-created war zones.  Small wonder that these Latino-orphans-of-our-making currently seek asylum with us: they have (in most cases) lost family leaders and were raised in the cross-fire of  conflicts we  engendered to keep the oil, money and drugs flowing…

It doesn\’t matter whether the puppet dictators we installed are/were there for the guns, the drugs, the money, the taste of pseudo power or the entire sick mix: US have facilitated the creation of places that are no places for children (Fish: \’Fugazi\’).  And now we owe it to these oil and drug hatchlings to protect them and give them an honest opportunity of laying their own eggs of success here with US — since we deprived them of this chance in the nests we destroyed.

Can U imagine if Namibia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Viet Nam, the Koreas, Cambodia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya, Rwanda, Burma, Pakistan, Laos, Indonesia, Libya and Somalia (and these are just a few more oil crucibles that I know of) were within driving, sailing or walking distance?  We\’d have untold orphaned hatchlings on our doorstep.
