I wish I could claim to be the first to have coined the acronym of the DSA (as opposed to the USA) — but I was not. The Divided States of America is a concept born from the genius of another.
I have been known to use the objective pronoun \”US\” when referring to our country as a collective — but it seems I will need to find at least one new pronoun for the \”divided country\” and that would probably be \”Them\” (recalling Pink Floyd\’s Us and Them). And do we owe the ramped up divisiveness to Donald Trump? At the very least he has irreparably widened the gap between the poles.
Once upon a time (a number of years ago) I suggested that we were living in a country with a strong case of schizophrenia. I\’d now like to change that diagnosis to split personality disorder, and the gap between these two distinctly different personalities grows larger by the day: One personality openly wishes to destroy the Other — while the Other personality attempts to reform the former without resorting to hate-filled rhetoric begetting violence. Real Yin/Yang stuff…
Ron DeSantis was recently quoted as saying: \”Florida is a \’refuge of sanity\’ where woke goes to die.\” Gavin Newsom on the other hand suggests that California is \”\’a true freedom state\’ that rejects \’demonization\’ coming from the other side.\”
Ron DeSantis — aside from coming off as a complete idiot — sounds very much like a Luddite. The entire purpose of education is to facilitate wokeness — otherwise you are nothing but an automaton programmed by whatever mainframe allows your simulation to function. Equating being \”free\” — while simultaneously immersed in a dogma-resonating echo chamber — makes you seem more of a slave than a free man. DeSantis\’s Florida Freedom is thinly veiled fascism.
Most of my readers know that I am not a big Gavin Newsom fan — he\’s more image than activist…more pretty boy than someone who rolls up his or her sleeves to finish the job. But he is correct that US here in the \”other\” sunshine state are not nearly as quick to condemn the Red States — though US do have our breaking point.
Burn Baby Burn! No, not our draft cards — but books — because books can make you woke. Did They ever teach Fahrenheit 451 in the red states?
I think US delude ourselves to think that we were ever a \”United\” States of America. More than one-third of the country thinks the recent presidential election was bogus. If this be true — then every single election has been bogus.
Close to half of the country voted for a charlatan, a cheat, an adulterer, a con man, an ignoramus and slimey, snake-oil salesman. I\’m starting to think that They voted for him and supported him to spite US.
Ah well, we all know the words of Honest Abe that: a house divided cannot stand — and it seems we are quite divided.
There have been moments that I viewed the January 6, 2021 Insurrection as a potential Boston Tea Party. But it couldn\’t have been…could it?
