Never has my titling had more personal relevance than this one – particularly the “wake-up call’! In the wee hours of February 17th the malevolent energy of Christopher Dorner literally woke me up – (probably about 3 days after I began writing this article [which was meant as a warning to folks who might say, or do, something inflammatory to a Christopher Dorner type]). Little did I imagine that I either awoke something in myself, or, something in dreamland that was connected to this latest foray…
Now I know that many people don’t put-much-stock-in-dreams – but it just so happens that I do. And when I was simply walking down a road (which I symbolically equated with my literary license, or freedom-of-speech, road) I was confronted by a personage resembling Christopher Dorner (in physique); who basically communicated (with hate-filled eyes) that I was not going to proceed any-further-down-the-road; and, that he intended to kill me. I have never empirically seen hate in anyone’s eyes quite like the eyes in this dream (or nightmare – as we ended up in quite a fight [which completely awakened me]).
The “eyes” reminded me of the eyes of a child whose father is killed in cold blood by the bad guy in the movies and swears revenge (‘My name is Inigo Montoya – prepare to die’!). And while I don’t see myself as the bad guy in my Dorner Nightmare (at least not that I’ve been able to interpret) – I believe the Dorner Principle, or Lesson, I learned is: Beware how you do people.
With all due respect to the dead and the wounded and grieving families of Dorner’s victims – I suggest that anyone in a socially responsible position who doesn’t deal with an angry subordinate, fairly – better start keeping an eye on his/her back, and another eye, on his/her loved ones. I believe our current social milieu daily produces people with-less-to-live-for and less-to- lose, and perversely, willing to violently bring others to the same sorrowful prison they have found themselves in.
This is Mafia stuff. This is Old Testament stuff: an-eye-for-an-eye and a-tooth-for-a-tooth! None of this Jesus turn-the-other-cheek shit!! Though job loss and murder don’t quite seem like an isomorphic exchange…
I was also bothered by early comments on the Dorner case made by former L.A. cops who are now employed in other-lines-of-work when these former L.A. cops – suggested that they were not surprised by Dorner’s murderous rampage because the L.A. Police Department is very corrupt.
An acquaintance of mine, recently absolved of all charges against him, and, recently released from prison for “white-collar” crime — is trying to reclaim his passport to get away from US. He has seen our prison system “up close” and the corruption he bore eyewitness to — has him looking for a much simpler lifestyle — in a country where meaning and purpose are much easier to come by.
Just yesterday some kid went crazy here in sunny, So Cal and killed 4 people including himself. Everyone called his acts senseless – and judging from the number of police shootings we bear witness to in the greater L.A. area – senseless shootings beget senseless shootings – because the shooter always seems to have a rationalized reason for taking a life.
Thank goodness the South Koreans and Vietnamese are back-on-track and not contemplating revenge upon US (though I do believe my Vietnamese doctor still exacts his pint of blood from me) – and the Iraqis are too busy killing each other. But I do worry about those Afghans – their memories, like the memories of the elephant, seem to be longer…as-for-me – I will begin making immediate amends to those feeling wronged by me…
