I’m hoping to get this OP-ED out before tomorrow’s L.A. Time sports page; where each contributing sports pundit will put in his/her five cents about the Trojans 39-36 loss today to the lowly Arizona Wildcats. The Trojans should be 8-0; and that’s why, the Kiffins gotta go!
I can’t think of any other reason for the Trojan loss other than bad coaching. I know enough about coaching, along with a helluvalotov arm chair quarterbacking, to see these Kiffins getting outcoached on both sides of the ball. Who hired these guys? Was it Mike Garret?? Or, was it Pat Haden???
Let me start with penalties: I learned today that we are the most penalized team in college football with about 10 penalties per game. During half-time last week, when ‘SC was playing a high school team on-the-way to setting all-sorts-of-records – I distinctly heard coach Kiffin state that these penalties were going to be taken care of. Obviously they were not, and ‘SC managed to dig themselves a quick hole because of the additional yardage being tacked on – not to mention the arrogance of Lane Kiffin passing up the three points for a fourth down touchdown attempt. Those three points might have sent this game into overtime!
Even the sports pundits are wondering if Lane should let someone else be calling the offense?! Will Lane get another year if UCLA (who looks like the can beat us) and Notre Dame (who can definitely beat us) both beat us this year? That might surely usher in the end-of-the-world come December 21, 2012. I mean, we started off this season ranked #1 in the country and reportedly have the best receiving corps in college football – not to mention a quarterback who was allegedly a Heisman candidate; a quarterback who could have “gone” in the NFL draft last season; and, we can’t beat Arizona? I have been watching this seemingly dimwitted Lane Kiffin character for almost 3 years now! He can’t manage the clock; can’t coach a team back from a deficit; can’t call plays to his quarterback’s strengths; and, doesn’t develop a running game EVERY GAME! Do you bench a running back who has fumbled – or, do you make him carry-the-ball non-stop until he holds onto the fucking thing?!
Whatever the case, the Kiffins had me screaming at the television again, today!
I miss the days when we were indomitable (and this has nothing to do with Reggie Bush’s area code – he fumbled too, Lane). There were eight years of indomitable football with Uncle: we won’t count his first year; nor will we count his last. But now we are quite vulnerable! On any given day, just about any disciplined team can beat us. I truly don’t know what the fuck Monte Kiffin is doing with a Trojan defense that just about anyone can score on (Yes. Even Colorado). When Monte sends-the-house after the quarter back – it seems to work very well – causing hurried plays and the rare sack. Tonight, on a huge play in-the-fourth-quarter; with Arizona driving – Monte rushes 3, gives the quarterback all-the-time-in-the-world to complete a long pass, and, and, and…how does an alleged NFL genius get outcoached by a college coach?! How does a former NFL coach squander a 28-13 Trojan lead against A COLLEGE TEAM!
The Trojans should be 8 and 0
That’s why the Kiffins gotta go!
